Manuel SalazarOn February 19, 2010 at 9:35 p.m., Phoenix police officers responded to a shooting at the Circle K store at 4259 West McDowell Road.  The incident began when the suspect, 20 year-old Manuel Salazar III entered the Circle K acting suspicious. He went to a cooler and removed two 30-packs of beer.  Salazar walked by the counter towards the exit doors with the beer when the victim, Lance Taylor, 23, blocked his path and told the suspect to return the beer.  He walked back to the cooler and put down the beer, but then removed a handgun from his waistband and displayed it, causing Taylor to back away.

As Salazar walked towards the exit doors, he pointed the gun at one of the clerks. He then began to leave the store, gun in hand, when he confronted a woman at the door. The suspect had words with her and then struck her in the head with his gun. This woman was the wife of the victim, Lance Taylor. After seeing his wife hit in the head with the gun, Taylor went outside the store behind the suspect, confronted him and was shot.  The Phoenix Fire Department treated the victim at the scene and transported him to St. Joseph's Hospital, but all efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Lance Taylor died as a result of his injuries. His next of kin was on scene.
