On 13 February, at around 7:45 p.m. Phoenix Police Officers were on patrol in the area of North 30th St. /E. Van Buren St. when they observed the victim, appearing to be very young, walking east bound with the suspect following close behind. Knowing the history of prostitution in the area, the officers decided to make contact with the victim. As officers turned their vehicle around, the suspect crossed to the other side of the road.
Officers learned from the victim that she had run away from her home in Casa Grande and had been brought to Phoenix to work as a prostitute by the suspect. A record check showed the victim had been reported as a runaway.
Officers contacted the suspect and were able to determine that he had solicited the child for prostitution and had also engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim. The suspect was later booked into jail on the listed charges. The victim is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
This was a great job by Phoenix Police officers who had knowledge of criminal activities in their beat area. This effort has given the victim at least a chance to improve her life.
